What does automotive sound deadening do?
A car-audio installation involves more than speakers and amplifiers. Vehicle panels can vibrate, trim pieces can contact surrounding surfaces, and gaps around speaker installations can affect the result. Sound treatment addresses these different parts of the installation.
SoundShield Original and MASSIVE combine butyl rubber, foil and closed-cell foam. BASE uses butyl and foil without the foam layer. Contour, WrapIt and GASKit provide purpose-built foam formats for speaker areas, contact points and custom gaskets.

Start with the surfaces you intend to treat, not the vehicle’s door count. Panel size, access openings and the amount of coverage you want all affect material use.
- Measure the treatment areas. For a rectangular area, multiply length by width in inches and divide by 144 to estimate square feet.
- Add the areas together. Account for each panel or surface you plan to cover.
- Allow for cutting waste. Irregular shapes and offcuts change the quantity you need. Plan the layout before ordering.
- Check clearance. Confirm trim, fasteners and moving components can return to their proper positions with the material installed.
For example, two planned areas measuring 24 × 30 inches each total 10 sq ft before cutting waste. An 11 sq ft roll leaves little room for offcuts in that layout. Measure your actual vehicle rather than treating this example as a door-kit recommendation.

What is the difference between Original and MASSIVE?
Both use a 4.5 mm foam, foil and butyl construction. Original comes in 20 × 79-inch rolls with approximately 11 sq ft each. MASSIVE is a 30-inch × 19.5-foot continuous roll with 48.75 sq ft. Choose based on panel size, layout and total coverage.
Is BASE the same as Original?
No. BASE is a 2 mm butyl-and-foil sheet treatment. Original adds a closed-cell foam layer and is 4.5 mm thick overall. Compare construction and available space, not just coverage per box.
Does sound deadening make a car completely soundproof?
No. Results depend on the vehicle, noise sources, installation and areas treated. These materials can help address vibration and acoustic issues, but this guide does not promise a particular decibel reduction.
Do I need Contour if I am already treating my doors?
Contour addresses the speaker installation area, while panel treatment addresses the surrounding vehicle panels. They can be used together when the speaker layout and available clearance suit both.
Can I use WrapIt instead of panel treatment?
WrapIt is foam tape for contact points. It does not replace the butyl-and-foil construction of BASE, Original or MASSIVE. Select it for the small details around an installation.
Does one MASSIVE roll cover a whole vehicle?
Not necessarily. A roll contains 48.75 sq ft, and whole-vehicle requirements vary widely. Measure the surfaces you intend to cover and allow for trimming before choosing a quantity.
Where do orders ship from, and is installation included?
SoundShield products ship directly from the supplier to your shipping address. Availability and dispatch timing depend on supplier stock; contact us if you have a project deadline. Installation and tools are sold separately.
